It’s well know that the battery life of the Samsung U600 isn’t great. Here is a little trick that helps to improve the battery life.
Use it only when you don’t use gprs!
I demonstrate this in the video below!
When you slide your phone up, enter this code: *#4777*8665#
This will appear on the screen like this: *#4777*—–
Then, a secret menu will show up. Go to the option GPRS Detach and click it. Next you will have to wait some time (eg 5 seconds)
and get the message: GPRS Detach cofirm
That’s all! Your stand-by time has increased with 20% now!
I also advice you to drain the battery completely before charging the first 3 times you charge. There’s no real proof that this wil improve your battery life but there are rumours.
Another option is to buy a better battery, the standard battery had only 690mAH while this battery provides 1000mAh so it will increase the stand by time +- 30%
Yet anoter thing you can do is set the display brightness to the minimum, so the screen will consume less energy
Don’t leave bluetooth activated, it’s very power consuming!
I got a 1250mAh battery and so far its terrible! I did the whole charge for 14+ hours and drain completely thing but so far it hasnt worked. Its even worse than the battery I got with the phone.
It could be just that I got a dodgy battery but still beware!
Just a caution for anyone thinking of getting a bigger capacity battery
I have the same problem Deano. I just bought a U600 and had heard of the problems with battery life. So I bought the most powerful battery I could find, 1250mAh. I don’t know why but its just not working right. I’ve done a full test of both batteries using MP3’s and the original 690mAh battery lasts a bit longer then the new 1250mAh. The user I bought from on ebay was reputable, as I checked and saw other people who had bought the same battery leaving all positive feedback.
Thx 4 all those useful tips ! Note that GPRS will be re-attached next time you switch on the phone. If you want to make this operation permanent, push Down till you see GPRS Setting, enter this menu and select manual attach. Next you can Detach GPRS in the previous menu.
If you ever need GPRS, you can re-attach it by setting it back to auto attach…
What is the best battery I can get for the U600. You say used a battery that is 1000mAh. Which brand is that? My standard battery I got with it dies way to fast.
Ok the GPRS detach works but when you switch on the browser and switch it off again the GPRS/EDGE does not go back off. What about recieving MMS.. Will the phone switch it automatically on, if it needs to retrieve any MMS while the phone’s GPRS is set to Operator Dependent?
