Flash your U600 (Firmware upgrade)
You CAN change the firmware of the U600 but it’s tricky, and you’ll lose your official support if you do it! I haven’t tried it myself! In best case, you can end up with an updated firmware, in the worst case with a DEAD phone!
U600 Firmware Install GUIDE! (thanks madonion for making this quide and letting me use it!)
You will need:

- Optiflash for U600. Found here.
http://frontside.be/word/download-optiflash/
- A firmware upgrade. Found here. http://homepages.pathfinder.gr/xux99/samsung/
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=389972
- The original samsung USB cable that came with the phone.
Procedure:
Launch Optiflash and click on ‘Options > Settings > Generic’
- Select ‘Customer T: d830/d840/d910 (USB)
- Set ‘Flash Erase Passes’ to ‘1′
- Set ‘Operation Passes’ to ‘Default’
- Uncheck all checkboxes except ‘Differences only’
Select the tab ‘Flash and Verify’
- Browse to and select your firmware (*.s3)
Select the tab ‘Default Contents’
If you have a file *.cts with the firmware *.s3:
- Select radio button “S-Record with content”
- Browse to and select your *.cts file
If you do not have the file *.cts:
- Click on ‘S-Record only’
- Click ‘OK’
- Connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable.(in the phone click connect to pc studio)
- Remove your SIM and microSD card and battery from the phone which will turn the phone off .(leaving USB cable in) You will see leds on.
- Whilst holding down the * key on the phone, briefly press the ON button.
Your computer will recognise the device as Samsung USB Mobile.
Return to Optiflash, Click on ‘Options > Settings > COM Port’
- Select the COM port your phone uses (If you’re not sure, you can find out by: Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager > Ports (COM and LTP))
- Select 921600.
- In Second COM Port select ‘NONE’
- Click ‘OK’
Lastly, click ‘Flash‘
The flash procedure will be finished when the message ‘All is Well’ appears above the green progression bar.
A full reset should not be necessary once the firmware is upgraded, however, if you want to do it: Type *2767*3855# then wait one full minute before you restart your phone.
To check your existing firmware type *#1234# into your handset
Time to flash: approx 15 mins.
** NOTE: IF YOUR PHONE RESTARTS IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE, DON’T PANIC! THE LANGUAGE SELECTION PROCESS IS:
MENU (left touch button) > SETTINGS (bottom right icon) > PHONE SETTINGS (2nd option) > LANGUAGE (1st option)

What’s the difference from the original firmware?
June 6th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
At the moment there is very little difference between the versions. Future version might bring new functionality.
June 6th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
K thanks than I’ll flash when there is a better one.
June 9th, 2007 at 6:24 pm
do you know for what is the U600XEGD5_cts.cts file in Russian firmware?
June 13th, 2007 at 4:25 am
Dunno what the .cts file is for but its included in the download.
The difference between the firmware is that this russian firmware has WAKE UP ALARM function so when u put ur phone in silent mode the alarm will sound.

June 20th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
unfortunately I’m at the part where my phone is frozen
while wiping the regions may solve this problem, the PC and optiflash will not recognize the phone because I cannot select ’samsung pc studio’ option on the phone (it’s frozen!). As soon as I pull the battery out, the leds turn off and optiflash says it cannot open the com port.
All settings should be fine as before because it flashed until ‘all is well’ but the phone is frozen.
any help would b greatly appreciated

Also, does anyone know how to use Optiflash to backup your existing FW so you can restore it should anything go wrong?

2. take the battery out
3. press the star button and on
4. reflash!

I did the whole procedure, and go the “Okay” message at the end, on the U600 I bought in Bangkok. Tried to restart it. It’s dead. Just a nice picture showing on power on, that’s it.
I noticed at the end you mention about wiping imei for Asian phones. Is this the cause ? if yes, how do you do this ?
Thanks in advance for your help, I’ll be happy to buy you a beer. Just tell me how, I live between Bangkok, paris, Brussels, Nice….
Cheers, stephane

December 23rd, 2007 at 11:54 pm
AMANDA try a master reset because u might’ve accidently touched sum buttons which changed settings. If it doesn’t work, best thing to do is to wait for a new firmware with the fix or go to the retailer if u havent installed any firmware on it.
December 27th, 2007 at 1:29 am
Perfect instructions and easy to follow so just flashed my U600 t-mobile firmware 100% with U600XXGG4 version but is it possible to do it again using a later firmware, also I thought flashing the firmware would have unlocked the phone as well but no problem done that using the Lucifer utility.
January 12th, 2008 at 8:01 am
I have the U600 with firmware U600DXGF1, and I am on the ATT network in the US. It sounds like Optiflash allows firmware changes, right? What features does the latest firmware version have over the U600DXGF1? Plus, what about network issues?
January 22nd, 2008 at 8:33 am
Somewhat off topic, But I can not locate the codes to disable Half rate voice codec or enable EFR om my U600. I upgraded from a D600, but the codes that worked for that, don’t work for the U600.
February 13th, 2008 at 12:55 am
Remove your SIM and microSD card and battery from the phone which will turn the phone off .(leaving USB cable in) You will see leds on.
My Phone dont get any power without the battery.

Which firmware version for U600 is need to install for this solution:
There isn’t chois to receive messages (SMS or MMS) with ring tone and vibration together, there are a chois only with ring or only vibration.
And second problem: when i see pictures, video or music from memory card, it’s impossible to list - preview (go next or back, only one selected), if the media is in phone memory then this is posible to view all with next or back.
April 29th, 2008 at 5:22 pm
I like my Samsung U600 very much due to its big screen and cool modern look from my previous Nokia 8100 after 7-8 years.
I encountered a problem recently - ” Barring All Outgoing Call ” issue.
I don’t remember I ever set a password on this feature. Today when I tried to make a call, an automatic machine just told me that the phone is barred from calling out and asked me to disable this feature. I tried all the password that I ever used, they didn’t work at all.
Anybody knows how to reset this feature?
- I tried to reset all at Settings->Reset Settings->All Settings. It didn’t work.
- I tried to set everything I know to default (e.g. show caller ID / hide caller ID). It didn’t work too.
Please please please help, I am in the middle of looking for a new job, it will dead-end if I couldn’t call back to my interviewers at urgent time.

Hello! Can you tell me if there is a firmware version that can write recieved files directly to memory card and reads/writes faster from the memory card or at least has that anoying video/picture thing where it tries to show thumbnails and takes a whole lot of time to scroll through menus with picture/video files in them? And if possible it has to be XE or XF area code. If not, it would still be fine if it has english language. And another unrelated question: are there any themes for this phone? Or a program that I can use to make my own themes? Or am I stuck with the lame black theme and the even lamer white theme that are built in to the phone?
July 12th, 2008 at 11:16 am
Ooops! I meant to say “has that anoying video/picture thing fixed”
July 27th, 2008 at 7:22 am
Hi, I just got my flex replaced coz its damaged and I cannot use the soft touch and navigation keys. It worked fine upon replace but now my problem is that I cannot use the phone memory for multimedia files. When I tried to transfer files from my memory card to phone, it says “Failed”. My firmware is U600DXGI1. Please please… Can anyone help me?
July 30th, 2008 at 2:39 am
I just flashed my U600 using your method, it worked, a few off the menus changed and *hash1234hash confirms the U600XXGK2 firmware has been flashed but nothing has been erased like i read it should (i still have all my contacts, sms etc…)
Am i lucky or did i do something wrong? i though this fix might make my shutter sound work again but i still experience no sound from when taking photos, but the full screen glitch seems fixed and alarm works in silent mode, besides from that and the Java menu becoming a bluetooth one, i can’t see much difference?
August 13th, 2008 at 6:43 pm

Hello, is it possible to flash from FW-Version U600BVGE1to U600XXGG4? My mobile is branded by Orange and I would like to switch it to normal Samsung software.
After the first flash the device didn’t boot again. Now I’ve fixed the problem with the former FW and the phone is booting again. But still in Orange-Style.
I still ask myself, if it is possible to debrand my mobile and I only made mistakes while flashing. Is there anybody, who has experience with that issue?

Hello! A have a sgh-u600 from a friend and I get it with the screen torn in black all the time. Yesterday I can power it on by holding down the middle “i” button and then pressing the power on button. And I can navigate into it’s menu but still having my finger pressing on the middle button. And when I did left it free the screen turned in black again. Now I cannot do the same like yesterday. And I read this topic and I tryed to flash it by following step by step the information from here but when I get out the sim and the battery and when I hold the “*” key with Power On, the phone stills do nothing and my computer didn’t recognise it as a samsung usb device. Please Help! I don’t want to spend money at the gsm service so possibly you can hepl me to fix it. I mention that everything it’s ok with the phone except the screen that its turned black all the time. PLEASE HELP!
